someone nearby was giving away a turtle with aquarium and all that shit….I have a turtle now. I have no idea how to care for it.

Some are primarily vegetarians, some are not. Slight difference between 4 inch painted and 40lb alligator snapping turtle. Might help to figure out what kind.

They have to have certain lighting and calcium supplements for their shell. Otherwise the shell gets real soft and they die. I'm assuming you're talking about a water turtle like a red or yellow ear slider?

^^^^ I found that out first hand, I rehomed both, one made it and the other didn't.
