The Costco combo comes with this charging dock/display case thing. It’s pretty cool because it has a magnetic adapter for the plug, but it’s a little tacky.

The camera on this one is supposed to be better. It also has a 3 axis gimbal instead of the 2 axis the spark has.

Thats extremely disappointing. Been looking at the DJI Mini. Fuck it if its 10 minutes of fun though...
Just bought the mini yesterday.

Battery is supposed to last 24-30 minutes. I flew it around for about 7 minutes and had 75% left.

It is slower than the spark, but it seems to maneuver better. The mini also has a battery camera/gimbal.

If say the only significant benefits the spark has over mini is the forward obstacle avoidance and lighting. The mini does visual obstacle so if your camera is pointed down, you don't have forward avoidance. The spark also has lights on each motor with red in front and green/yellow/red in back depending on mode/warnings. The mini only has one light on the rear of the body.

You can buy good quality micro Leads that meet the FAA nav light requirements for cheap. There's actually a company that sells a two pack with clips to mount to the front legs of the mini for about $50.

Interesting. I am onto something else at the moment, but may be back on the drone thing after a little while.

I'll post more after I get some air time in

I've got to run to Walmart for a new SD card first.

It was pretty windy so I didn't go very high.

What's the legal max altitude? As an old fart who never played a video game, I doubt I have the thumbs skills to work one of these without crashing it real fast.;)

400ft/120m

the new stuff is very forgiving to new pilots.

there are a shitload of FAA refs, including a registration requirement for drones over 250g.
funnily enough, the Mavic mini is 249g.

the dji app is kind enough to let you (but not the FAA) know when you violate the regs. Also, at least with the mini, it won’t let you fly into the really serious no no areas (mil bases and that kind of shit)

Dropped the spark off with my homie and we got a little air time in.

This little bastard is impressive. It was pretty windy and the mini was moving around a good bit, but the image stayed perfectly smooth.

I'll upload some pics later.

So let's say FAA regs weren't an issue, what is the max altitude one of these could do? I assume line of sight, but how high could you technically get?

People have taken Mavic pros to 8000ft.

i suspect the mini wouldn’t go that high, but I imagine it could get to 2500-3000

This dude takes a mini to 500m before getting signal interference (he was in a somewhat urban area and I suspect wasn’t aiming the antenna straight up). While it gave him a strong wind warning, I think it could Have gone higher.
