I use an rei 50L bag. I forget the name, but whatever doesn't fit, I don't need it.

Books can be found in the bargain section of Barnes and Noble. Use paracord to learn, preferably two different colors that way you can see if you did it right

A machete. But in all seriousness... A gran fours (sp) bruk camp axe is what I would have. As I have it right now, I have a Michigan double bit, and a youth ¾ axe. The youth axe gets more use than the does the double bit.
