How do I decide between this and the FN502?

I had a Sig mosquito that was less than stellar, it jammed and wasn't very accurate. If I was going to buy a 22 pistol, it would be the M&P Smith and Wesson to train with. I also really like my Ruger Mk IV. The 502 looks like a decent 22lr platform for training as well.

I'd try to find some videos on YouTube that do side to side comparisons of the pistols that you are interested in.

I am pretty excited about this release for a couple reasons, but there are a couple things that are tempering my expectations.

I'm excited about the capacity, that this is hammer fired (so probably a decent trigger), that it's optics ready, and the slide might not be buttery soft pot metal. I haven't seen an FN502 in person, but the fact that its made by Umarex makes me think it's a zamak pot metal type of slide and the softness means the finish will come off pretty easily. I hate that cheap feeling and it's kept me from getting the Beretta 92 version in 22LR. If the price of these is around $400 landed and the slide isn't pot metal, I'm probably in.

I say probably because Sig has a history of releasing guns with issues and letting buyers do the beta testing. I also hate the fact that the pistol has plastic sights, even if they're FO. I guess it doesn't make a whole lot of difference if you run an optic, but I don't care for plastic sights. Overall, lot more positives than negatives.

I shot the FN502 and became an instant fan right group at 10-15 feet right where I aim using the 507C red. I’m still interested in getting one however the Sig has made the choice tougher between the 2 with the P322. It looks promising and 20 rds is better than 10 rds that I have in my Mark IV 22/45 that I love.

I saw a lot of post about the Glock 44 having feed issues or jamming that stopped me from going down that road. It’s like you said the companies build em get em out in the world for field testing to trouble shoot but it seems like R&D would have gone through thousands of rounds by then and already know every possible issue lol. Having 15,18, or 20 rds in a 22lr is not that heavy and seems a better option. I watched a 9 Mil Ridge video that showed the P322 failing to feed Winchester crappy ammo and Armscor ...operator loading mag error maybe.

Umarex did a pretty good job figuring out how to stack 25 rounds into a mag and have it feed pretty darn reliably, so I figured it wouldn't be a great leap to translate that to a pistol magazine, but I'm not an engineer. I appreciate that Sig has really been pushing pistol development further along with stuff like the chassis and grip module, killing it in the subcompact carry market, and now this.

They also need to design around existing IP or license it. That presents a challenge a lot of consumers don't consider. You can't always use the same design your competitor did, you need to figure out another way to accomplish the same thing.

1. Pretty hard to find a ss on a 22 as the material is too heavy to feed. You have to go lighter. That's why you don't see heavy 22lr slides.
2. Umarex is not GSG. Umarex has been making licensed, quality 22lr gins for a multitude of companies for a long time. Colt, HK, FN, Walther, etc.

The 322 looks promising. They fkd up in cutting the slide for the Romeo zero. That, in and of itself, would keep me from buying one.

I have really been impressed with this little pistol.

I have run it suppressed and unsuppressed and been very pleased with the performance. I ran a variety of rounds thru it including subs and had no FTFs or jams. For what it is, it is easy to operate and easy to take down. The threaded barrel extension is removable if you don't want to carry it around with the threads sticking out.

I am not looking for the most advanced .22lr pistol or the highest magazine capacity. Just a sub $300 .22lr suppressor host.
