I love my fvsr with the arc 22 can.

If you plan on wanting to shoot anything above .22 lr might as well go with the can rated for the larger calibers.

How can you compare a rifle with a pistol?
As far as pistols go 22/45 is the worst host. Even Dobbs will tell you. As far as anything FVSR is the best. Still need a 10/22 for fun factor. 22/45 is still a lot quieter. Just don't want you to go in with really high expectations of it as a host. Has a first round pop not heard with the other 2 and is louder. Still lots of fun. I recommend it as a host just not your only host.

So what's a good pistol host?

Tough question. Lightness or caliber selection. Toss a coin. I have the Evercore which is heavier but I doubt I'll ever put it on anything else.

I have two .22 pistol hosts. Both are pretty good but I think I would give the edge to the S&W compact .22.

I've said this before... when I got my first can (Guardian 9), I didn't have any subsonic 9mm ammo. So I went to the range with the regular old 115 grain 9mm I had on hand.

After shooting three rounds thought it, my first thought was "why the hell did I buy this thing?" Ears ringing a little, I was really not happy. The noise was all due to the supersonic crack. .22LR is the same- it's not quiet worth a damn unless it's subsonic. Pistols shoot bulk pack everything below the speed of sound. My 10/22 doesn't- it requires subsonic ammo to be quiet.

So.... it's just my opinion, but if it breaks the sound barrier, you won't be happy. It's probably just barely hearing safe, but it darn sure isn't quiet.

CCI standard is nice quiet, any hunting rounds, almost like nothing on the end of barrel.
