Im pulling the trigger on an ARC 22 can this weekend. Is it worth it to pick up the the .22 mag rated one or just stick with the 22 LR rated can?

Id 'go big or go home'.

Id rather have the extra durability and also ability for more calibers personally. Just my opinion though

I agree but the weight difference is very noticeable. not sure how that will feel on a host but I am gonna ask the LGS if I can see how it feels on a pistol. Is there a point in suppressing a faster round like 22 mag or 17 hmr?

See if you can compare the weight of the faster one to a spectre II. If its about the same youre welcome to come try mine out on a pistol and rifle and get a feel for it first to see if its too heavy. I dont mind it at all personally.

To answer your question though, no. There isnt much point to it. I like durability and quality though. Personal preference of course. Although I think itd be fun to suppress a 5.7, which I can do with my spectre...

5.7, 17 HMR and 22 mag are moving almost twice as fast as a .22 LR so unless Im wrong it will be like shooting a 220 gr 300 blk and then shooting a .223 out of a can. big difference in reduction

Hell the lighter 5.7 is nearly three times faster lol

I've said this before... when I got my first can (Guardian 9), I didn't have any subsonic 9mm ammo. So I went to the range with the regular old 115 grain 9mm I had on hand.

After shooting three rounds thought it, my first thought was "why the hell did I buy this thing?" Ears ringing a little, I was really not happy. The noise was all due to the supersonic crack. .22LR is the same- it's not quiet worth a damn unless it's subsonic. Pistols shoot bulk pack everything below the speed of sound. My 10/22 doesn't- it requires subsonic ammo to be quiet.

So.... it's just my opinion, but if it breaks the sound barrier, you won't be happy. It's probably just barely hearing safe, but it darn sure isn't quiet.

Yupp. Side note though, most of the "standard velocity" 22 is nice and quiet too. Like the CCI Standard Velocity are 1050fps which is actually slower than the Winchester Subsonic at 1065fps.

I generally have good results with AutoMatch through the 10/22 also (If I'm remembering that correctly- I usually shoot CCI Subs through that rifle)

this is why I am leaning towards a can that is lighter and $100 cheaper. not sure if I see myself shooting 22 mag through a can, I only have a Henry rifle in 22 mag and dont have a 17 or a 5.7.

I stick to subs in the 10/22 for the most part. CCI subs that are 710. The gemtechs are my ffavorite but I dont have but a few boxes. Theyre like 900 something fps and super quiet, less drop than the ccis, and nearly as quiet. the best part is the cycle it!! lol

I really doubt you'd be happy with 22mag through a suppressor. It would probably sound about like an non-suppressed .22LR.

I shoot 99.9% supersonic suppressed. One of my favorite hosts was my 17 hmr. Are you buying the can from Dobbs or @DoglegArms ? You are welcome to come up and demo my ARC 22.
