Hey Everyone,

We are hoping to compile a list of common gun related misconceptions that are drawn from hollywood, inexperience or 'folk lore'! We'll start the list off and if you have something to add then please do. If we get enough responses, we hope to make this into a youtube video series for all to enjoy.

1)
"Knockdown power" - the idea that a gun shot wound(s) would blow someone offer their feet.

Cop killer bullets - Teflon coated bullets will penetrate a bulletproof vest. In reality, any round can be a cop killer, it is all about shot placement!

When the actor pulls a revolver and it clicks three or four times even though the cylinder doesn't move.

where the shooter just points in the general direction, without bothering with sights, and gets a centered headshot while the shootee is moving.

and that idiotic "snap shooting" favored in old westerns. Where the revolver is pointing up and is brought down quickly and with no aiming and the revolver is fired.
Works every time though, hits the guy that's 50 yards away.

Like nails on a chalkboard when I see that.

My favorite is when people in the movies will point a gun at somebody for a while like in a hostage situation or something. Then 5 minutes later to show they are serious they will rack the slide or pump a shotgun. Really, you had an empty chamber that whole time?

Movies are full of people racking slides and working actions so you can hear the cool sound, even though it makes no sense to do it at that time.
