I'm thinking about getting a pocket pistols for those days where carrying a M&P or Glock just isn't an option.

I'm looking at either the Ruger LCP or the S&W Bodyguard.

Anybody have experience with either of these pistols? Which would you recommend and why?

Ruger LCP. I have on me all the time.

Get the Hogue grip sleeve to go with it. Makes shooting MUCH more comfortable. She's fairly accurate, too.

If you buy used be sure to get the Gen II model. Gen I's triggers are LOOOOOOONG>

Here's how to tell the difference. Gen II is on the right.

There's a used gen 2 LCP for $229 and a used Bodyguard w/laser for $349 at a LGS...

I've had both. The bodyguard felt better in the hand, had less felt recoil, and much better sights. For me I shot it more accurately and faster. However the lcp felt better in my pocket had absolutely no snag points and was dead nuts reliable everything I ever fed it.

I know I'm about to get yelled at, but I would recommend a Taurus TCP. I think it's an improved LCP. Mine at least was 100% reliable, and had a better, but still really long, trigger than either of the two you mentioned.

I sold it and went to a Smith 642 for pocket carry when I need that option. Those little .380s are next to impossible to shoot well past 7 yards.

Well that's all they need to be good for isn't it?

I dunno man...Taurus makes me nervous. I'll look into it though

Does the cylinder not cause too much of a bulge in your pocket?

I don't wear skinny jeans. If I'm putting a gun in my pocket, I wear pants that will accommodate it.

I probably should have said almost impossible to shoot well. They are terrible. Between the tiny grips, horrible triggers, 2" barrels, terrible sights, they are God awful performers at the range. I've went through the two you mentioned, and the TCP, thought the TCP was the best of the lot, but I really hated all of them them. I'd put at least a 50 round box through it every month for the year+ I owned it, and I hated it a little bit more every time I pulled the trigger. I'm convinced the only people that actually like these guns never shoot them, and carry them as a talisman to ward off evil.

My real recommendation is to get a single stack nine, good holster/belt combo, and only carry a gun you can shoot well.

I think with the lcp being $200 just about everywhere now it's the obvious choice.
