Ok, so I had no idea this even existed until Midway's morning sale email showed up. Apparently this is a modified 6.8 SPC cartridge necked down to .22 caliber.

The link above advertises near "22-250" velocities out of an AR... interesting. I really wonder if the throat erosion is going to be a problem like it is with the .22-250.

yes please and I would bet you'd be right about the throat erosion issues. anytime you get something moving that fast its always gonna be a problem

I remember talking to Dad about the .22-250 since that was one of my first (self chosen) rifles. His comments were related to the shoulder angle and relatively short neck on the .22-250 brass. Basically, the shoulder angles intersect at a point outside of the case neck, focusing the "blast" on the throat rather than on the inside edges of the case neck.

I'm not super good at interior ballistics, so I don't know. And at the time, Dad was giving me all the reasons I should have bought a .223 instead of the .22-250.

The concept sounds good. At least there are manufactures still willing to Wildcat. I am still waiting on a .22 TCM conversion for my M11. It has been tossed around for a year over at MAC10 talk on UZITALK.COM and from what I heard Sam at Pratical Solutions cut 2 barrels and tested it.

I hadn't really even considered that... I'm also glad the big manufacturers are willing to experiment a little and release new calibers.

Cool idea, I just don't know what an extra few hundred fps is going to get me in a 5.56mm. It might fill a niche for some folks, just not me.

A little more distance...

Yeah, all I'll need to do is aim slightly higher to accomplish the same thing. lol I'm basically punching paper at 100-300 and hunting at 100m and under. The lowly 5.56x45 will do that for me no problemo.

Absolutely. Not sure the extra FPS of the new round would get too much more distance. I don't plan on shooting out past 100 meters anyway unless I am hunting or target shooting.

i don't want to stifle innovation with my negativity but i'm still scratching my head "why" on this one.

i get that they're trying to maximize a 22 caliber projectile out of an ar-15 magwell but like laufen said 5.56/223 handles most of my applications pretty well.

if i need a flatter shooting rifle, i am switching out to a bolt action in a specialized caliber like 22-250, 220 swift, etc.
