Was at the gun shop and a Type 53 followed me home. Real nice bore. But the stock is all dinged up.
It was $139.00 is this a good price?

My wife was filling out the paperwork for new Phoenix 22 so I started looking around. They had a box of about 50 of the long mosin nagant. Then on the used gun rack I've seen these three type 53. I picked them up about 2 or 3 times and put them back down because of the stocks were so beat up on them. Then I started looking at the bores on them and one had a real nice bore on it.
All the metal on it was real nice fine condition real nice workmanship so it followed me home.

The stocks on the t53's are usually pretty rough. China did not have a lot of good hardwood to make stocks with. They used something called chu wood for a lot of their stocks. Wait till you see the fireball these emit and you will be glad you bought it

Nice catch Rich! Now all you need is a spam can of ammo (you probably already have one) and have fun. BubbaDX is right....HUGE fireball, especially when shooting at dusk. When I shoot my M44, the tree branches and grass sway all the way downrange. Fun Fun Fun. :D

When I picked up my first Mosin Nagant at the gunshow for $79 and I also picked up a spam can of ammo for $85.
After shooting it the first time I order two spam cans off the internet for $145 shipped.

I just spent about 2 hours refinishing the stock.
Does make it look a little bit better.

I ordered these two from S.O.G. a while back. I placed the orders about 2 months apart.

I was not satisfied with the stain I used on the stock. So I sanded it down again I used some magic maple stain. This is stain I used to use on my curly maple stocks. It made the stock come out with a real nice walnut locking finish.
I've put about 4 coats of True Oil finish on it so far. I will post some pictures after bit.

I ordered a butt plate for my carbine and it came in. The one I ordered for my long mosin was a pretty good fit but the one I ordered for my carbine was a pretty oversized fit. So I ground it down to fit. It didn't come out too bad.
