Was passed down to me from my grandfather from my mom's side. I have always been told that it came from ww2 era, he did participate in it. So any help to better identify this would be cool. Thanks @freedom @NWS @Balthaz 20140907_211253.jpg 20140907_211308.jpg 20140907_211216.jpg

Alright. Give me a little bit and I will grab a close up pic

The Arisaka's had a chrysanthemum on the top of the receiver. From what Dad told me once, the engraving was ground off out of respect for the emperor of Japan on the war bring backs... if you have one with the flower still showing, it's quite valuable.

Good to know. I will take a look at it.

Definitely an Arisaka. I don't know enough to ID beyond that. I have a 99, i believe a shorter barrel than the 38, that's 7.7jap. I think the 30 & 38 are 6.5, but may be wrong.

Maybe the 30 is 6.5 and 38 is 7.7

My "last ditch" type 99 image.jpeg
Last ditch refers to an end of the last ditch effort at the end of WW2. To save metal it has a wooden butt plate, no airplane sights. Some parts are cast in sand moldings and you can tell, it almost looks like a prop rifle, from how cheaply made it looks up close image.jpeg
The intact mum image.jpeg
Flip up sights. Earlier ones have wings that flip out to help with leading planes flying overhead. image.jpeg
Reciever markings. You can google these and find the year and arsenal, some are worth much more than others image.jpeg

I got one from my uncle with a monopod and dust cover that slides with the bolt. It also has the wings on the rear sight. Looks like a sniper model but from what I can tell it has no scope mount.

The dust cover adds a good bit to the value, or so I've been told.

It's hard to find a value on these rifles. I'm in the process of appraising my uncle's arsenal so we can split it between 4 beneficiaries and that's one that has me stumped. At first I thought it to be about a $125 rifle but further research looks like some of these bring a much higher price.

So I am definitely thinking 30 at this point. Here are some detailed pics of the upper. 20160611_145844.jpg 20160611_145849.jpg 20160611_145856.jpg

With DC, airplane sights which are commonly broken, and intact mum(you didn't say), I would guess 400+ in decent condition. I would PM @Kyle Turner here or palmetto moon at the ODT, same guy, for some help. Really knowledgeable on jap rifles.
