@Gunsite Grad asked me to post this for him since he's unable.

A potential buyer that seems serious about buying his gun is asking for the gun's serial number before he commits.

I find this a bit odd....thoughts?

Is the person LE?
Did he ask why?

Is it a collectable type of firearm and the buyer is trying to identify original factory condition?

I could understand asking if the party wanted to run the numbers through NCIC before buying .....

I can't really think of a good reason to ask then.

I can't either unless it's what @AirOpsMgr suggested...and even then I don't know why he'd want to. If he's afraid of buying a hot gun go buy new and alleviate the problem...

I did ask but have yet to receive a reply. I don't believe he is LEO. The gun is the Para I have listed here & other places.

If he is worried about it being hot tell him you will meet him at the police station where you will have it run together. LEO generally will not run a serial number through NCIC unless they have it in there possession since if they get a "hit" they will need to confiscate it.

Beyond that, nope not giving a guns serial number to anyone prior to the meet.

Rookie trader. Like most, he sees the risk as mostly on his side. Tell him no serial number. In exchange he won't have to provide a printed copy of his criminal history.

FaceBook buyer? He'll probably want to take a selfie with you at the meet. Nothing good can come of this.

Tell that mother trucker he can have the serial number when he buys it. If he is worried about buying a stolen gun, tell him to buy new.
