300 blackout is stupid.

Damn that's a lot of lead. I hear at 950 it just bounces of the target.
Im gonna try it against a few different soft targets next weekend and see what it does. I imagine it will do some good damage. Still running faster than s 45acp and about the same weight.

other than being very quiet at the range, i still haven't discovered a practical use for 300 subs.

sure, in a self-defense situation they're about like a pistol-caliber carbine (45ish?), but i'd much rather have 300 supers (or something faster) if my ass was truly on the line. with supers, you loose a lot of the benefits of sound-suppression. also, supersonic 300 is inferior - in my opinion - to other similar calibers such as 6.8spc and 6.5 grendel.

i did take a deer this past season with a barnes tsx 300 (super) but i'll probably go back to my 6.8 setup this fall.

and before you mention something about common bcgs and mags with 5.56 - i purposefully don't mix the two for fear of chambering a 5.56 round in a 300 barrel.

i'm still like both of my 300 setups (one is an sbr) but i'm still trying to "be sold" on the caliber as a real "go to."

Theres definitely better calibers out there, especially for killing stuff. These are just for fun. Im trying to decide what caliber i should build my first AR15 SBR into. Ive already got 3 5.56 rifles. I was thinking 300blk, but the handi rifle is more fun. Maybe 6.8?

I could really stir the pit and post some loads that cost less than 5.56 lol. Nothing like some hard cast 30 carbine bullets thrown at subsonic speeds. They arent good for much more than shooting quietly though.

SBR needs to be suppressed. I don't really understand the point of a 5.56 SBR.

That's why I only care for pistol caliber SBRs. I have a 300 upper, but 9mm is where it's at. Gimme a 7.62x39 16" and a 9mm SBR and I'm all set.

my 300 sbr suppressed is quieter than my 9mm sbr suppressed. if low db's are your absolute goal then 220 gr 300 can be worth the 2 to 3x cost vs 147 gr 9mm.

specs on my dubious comparison:

300 sbr ar 9" barrel with a specwar 762 shooting 220 grain ozark ordnance

9mm sbr ar 5.5" barrel with a tirant 9mm shooting 147 gr speer lawman and the "hush" brand of freedom munitions.

maybe it's just the setup - and i haven't metered for db levels or chrono'd for speed - but the 9mm is perceived to be louder with the above setups. it's hard to get an "apples to apples" comparison here so take that for what it's worth.

both are a lot of fun but i do consider them to be more of the "range toy" variety.

Stupid quiet that is.

Got to love when the projectile is longer than the case 225gr hpbt going about 950fps.

I was about to be mad as hell!!!! I loved my 300 BLK. The only reason I traded it was because ammo got so hard to find. I'd love to see your rifle in action. I've never seen a 300 BLK suppressed with subs in person.

I love the HPBT rounds better than the poly tipped ones. For those worried about it bouncing off, try stopping one with yer body!

The soul killing .45 ACP +P JHP has a muzzle velocity of 950 FPS ando muzzle energy of 461 FT/LBs.

The 300 BLKOUT 208 A-max has a muzzle velocity of 990 FPS and muzzle energy of 451 FT/LBS.

That is for subsonic. Once you step up to Supersonic it get way different! That takes a 110 gr DPX round to 2400 FPS at a muzzle energy of 1407 FT/LBS!

Two great options in one rifle!
