Looking at ballistic charts I don't see a practical need to go over 20" on an 556 AR. I just Cerakoted a 24" build for a customer and the rifle just feels unnatural. Of course it would help if he got a rifle stock for it but damn that barrel is like toting around a broom stick. IMG_20161215_132632.jpg

i suppress all of my ar's so i have no real interest in anything beyond 18".

can you imagine a 24" barrel with a can hanging off the end? i'd rather carry a 2x4 around the woods. and i don't bench-shoot for competition.

I have a 24'' bolt gun listed, I find that the velocity gains decrease the wind effects at the short ranges that I shoot-400 yards over a 16''. If it were an ar there is no way that I would go over 20. My buddy has an 18 or 20 inch MVP, and I can tell no difference from the 24. we shoot 62 and 55's.
