If you want it and you think you'll like it, what's stopping you? If a Glock 17 with a bunch of work done to it to fit your wants/needs is what you think you'll get the most enjoyment/use out of then go for it. You wouldn't be the first of the last person to have a $1,000+ Glock. Hell, I was watching an Agency Arms live stream on Instagram today and the guy on there said that a base package from them is $1,400 for slide work(I don't think that included any frame mods but I could be wrong) and that's with a customer supplied gun.

So my little story...
I was a 1911 guy (see screen name) and probably mostly because Dad was also. I decided to give the G17 a fair shake. I bought a police trade in at a gun show in about 2005. I think it was about $375 and bone stock.

I've never shot a $200 trigger, but the $10 glock "minus" connector is all I put in mine and have no problems with the trigger. It shoots very well in my opinion and I've had some nice 1911s and shot some even nicer ones (i.e. Dad's guns).

Never swapped a barrel for accuracy reasons- bought a few threaded ones because cans.

Frame mods- sure, sand, burn, melt, whatever you want to make it comfortable for your hand.

Oh- and for me, the G34 made the G17 look like a pile of crap. No special mods either.

Make a trip to Macon and we can hit the gun club and you can shoot the hell out of mine and see what you think.

Then buy a stripped frame and build from there. I can get you a stripped gen3 17 pretty cheap.

Any decent deals on the non-frame parts? I wanted to do a Polymer80 frame, but damn the slide and other parts cost more than a used stock G17.

He does a 1911 builder's class I'd fucking DIE to go to.

Google "Bob Rodgers". He makes some of the nicest 1911's on the planet and also does a 1911 Pistolsmithing class as well. Go look at the gallery on his website.

Nah, I got a source for stripped police trade in frames. As far as everything else goes I don't have any dealer access to that kind of stuff.

Yeah but then it'd need a $500 slide and barrel. No good options.
Frame= $75 slides can be had under $200. You were going to replace about everything else anyway. It's a better option than buying a new gun then gutting it.

And they shit canned him. Now Iain Harrison is the editor. That competition shooters for Taran Tactical said some things that were way worse about the 2nd amendment. They shit canned her. Everyone still supports them. He was a bad egg that somehow got into the mix. But that's all he was. Replaceable. Malarkey and X Products is different because he's not just the egg but instead is the hen. He's part owner.

Worth it?

Not to me it wasn’t. One of the 2 worst classes I’ve ever taken. I was contacted and asked to provide a suitable training venue for the course, in return for 2 free slots. So, it was free for me and it still wasn’t worth the time I spent there.

Myself and one of my Instructors attended. We were both shooting USPSA Single Stack at the time.

After Day 1 we almost didn’t show up for Day 2. I felt like I had to since I was in charge of the range facility being used for tr weekend.

In regards to the actual armorer’s portion, John Harrison puts on a version that is so much better it can’t be compared.
