Yep. Had to drop the transmission to get to it.

So back in the day when I was in high school my dad bought a used Fiat X1/9. Very unlike him, but that's another story.

Since I got to drive it - it eventually needed a new clutch. Mid-engine transaxle.

In order to change it you have to jack up the car and lower the engine/transaxle from below. Then split the two.

Replaced the clutch, put it all back together. And clutch pedal went to the floor. Needless to say I had installed the pressure plate backwards.

    I feel your pain.

Once you replace it twice you get good at it...

I hate changing clutches. It always takes me 2 hours to get the transmission off, 10 minutes to actually change the clutch, then like 4 hours to put the dang transmission back in. Doing them in 4 wheel drive trucks is nice because you have room but then you have the transfer case that makes the transmission twice as heavy...

I had a Ford Ranger that the clutch slave cylinder went out on. For some reason Ford decided it would be a good idea to put the slave cylinder inside the bell-housing so you have to drop the transmission to get to it. I went ahead and changed that clutch even though it didn't really need it because the transmission was already out anyway.

The slave on the 240d might as well be in the housing. Can't access it from the bottom, have to snake your arms in through the top and can't see shit the whole time. I've actually heard of people just dropping the tranny to do it .
