Who has body armor as part of their home defense kit? I ordered a basic carrier and plates from AR500, just waiting for it to ship. Seems like a decent idea as long as it's readily available for investigating bumps in the night.

Only matters where I'm going
I had one a while back but more so for crazy situations, don't think i would've grabbed it for bump in the nights. Then again, home invasions are involving 3 or 4 or even 5 people now a days. Just like ammo, never heard someone complain about having it but damn sure hear about not having it or enough

I got a carrier about a year ago, but didn’t get any plates for it until last week.

I figured my chances of ever needing body armor are pretty low, so I wasn’t going to spend a shitload of money on something that will probably just sit around and gather dust.

I’ve got the Condor Sentry carrier, Tactical Scorpion Gear level III AR500 plates and trauma pad backers.

The plates and pads I got:

I really haven’t messed with it much since I put the plates in it, but I can tell you one thing right now....

IT’S HEAVY!

Yeah, I spent $135 with tax and shipping for the carrier and the level III plates. I figure that's not too much spent, and if I need it I'll be happy it's around.

Sheeeeeeet, I wish!

I know it’s not real accurate, but here it is sitting on a bathroom scale. This is just the carrier with plates and trauma pads.

I still have to add this. I think I’m actually going to get a triple AR mag pouch that doesn’t have the triple Glock mags on it. That will shed a little weight and bulk.

You’re talking about the carrier without plates, right?

I have the same plate carrier you do. I really hate the Army issued one. I've worn it for up to 13 hours a day ( with breaks ) and it's not too bad. I should have spent the money on a $250.00 dollar "Shellback" But I was being cheap at the time, and not sure if the CO would sign off on us wearing non issued gear. ( we still have to have plates in our gear) So over all, I'm okay with my kit. Oh, BTW add a small "camelback" and other minor gear, ( radio, IFAK, etc. ) And it gets cumbersome/ heavy, quick fast and in a hurry. I like my old school "H" harness much better, then hanging all of my shit off my plate carrier. Just my two cents.

I have a plate carrier, but I only put 1 AR mag on it; my main mags are all on my belt. No other kit on my carrier. Mine weighs quite a bit more than 10lbs.
