I keep hearing good things about wolf gold actually, I just need some good plinking ammo for burning 100+ rounds at the 300 yard length range, so accurate but this aint for completions or killing.

So Wolf? Magtech? PMC? whats your flavor?

I've only shot a few hundred rounds but the wolf gold has been reliable and accurate enough for my plinking.

I've had no prob. with M193 (55 grain) ball ammo, The M855 (62 grain) shoots better out of my rifle, But the stuff that shoots the best is 69 grain match ammo. That being said, I like the Federal stuff, just a hair over the PMC... I'd stay away from any Silver or Brown Bear Russian stuff, no matter what grain... I have not tried the Wolf gold stuff yet. Maybe I'll try it out sometime, and see what it will do at 25 meters.

A few test show it as 2-2.5 Moa with consistent velocities

Federal and Independence are all my rifles see.

Why chance a problem over a penny.

I don't particularly trust those two brands to be any more consistent really. I'm just looking for brass cased, 55gr ammo that go 3250fps out of my 20" in as small a group as possible for plinking prices.

All I know is from the Army slides, is that M855 dose about 3000 FPS out of a M16A2 20 inch barrel... I'd have to look up the specs, for M193, but I don't think it gets near 3200 FPS in 55 grain ball... Maybe, the 45 grain "hot stuff" will be faster... IDK... What barrel length are you trying to shoot from? I'm not a expert on ammo out side of what the Army stuff will do... I do know the shorter the barrel, the harder it will be to get it to go faster... I'm pretty sure army ammo is not in SAMMI, specs.... I think it's "hotter" then reloading standard...
A M16 M4 M855 ball out of a 14.5 barrel will do about 2950 FPS... Once again according to the army.

PMC x-tac is pretty good and can be found reasonably priced.

You're unlikely to find any mass produced product that groups small. And if there is such a thing... it's quite unlikely to be the 55gr flavor.

Pretty much all new m193 will go above 3200 in a 20" barrel. Just wondering if any mass produced brands are known for better grouping than others. I shoot hornady 55gr for 1 moa groupings with the gun but I need 1-3ishmoa ammo for longer range sessions.

I think, at anything past 300, your going to need a bigger bullet, because the wind will play hell with it, and a bigger bullet will have more "ass" behind it. I know one of my rifles (a 14.5 inch 1/9 twist) LOVES the 69 grain stuff. But I never "chronoed" to see how fast the 69 was out of the barrel.

I found this at Wal-Mart... I have no idea when I'll get a chance to try it out.
