Needing advice on where to get some work done on my AK. Bought it a couple of years ago but want to customize it now. Wanting to get a aftermarket stock on it but since it is a milled receiver it has 2 Trunions - most aftermarket stocks use 1. Also wanting to get an optic place on it.

Any advice on who does this kind of work in the metro atlanta area

Call GEorgia Firingline. I think I heard they work on AKs. I am pretty sure Brian Ott and Dobbs Defense don't do AK work.

    What?

Have you got a picture of the back end of the rifle showing this? I did ak work for 9 years & have never heard of this. I know, all US made ak... Strange...

And I'm not in metro Atl.

Ok, that normal for a milled receiver. That's not the trunion though, those are called stock tangs.

Milled receivers dont have trunions, they are part of the receiver.

gotcha. thanks for the info - will probably get a gunsmith to chop bottom one off since none of the aftermarket stocks fit it

Ga Firing Line is my ABSOLUTE go to for gun smith work. They have a team of at least three guys in there that I know of with an insane amount of tools and machines in house. They had a gun of mine yesterday and fixed a constant FTE problem in a couple of days even after I said no rush at all. They also informed me I shouldnt have a washer under my can on the barrel and pulled the rail off, pulled the barrel out, trimmed down my threads on their lathe to match the length of my can piston and got me all squared away same day. The FTE and lathe work all was done for a whopping $70... They have also helped me for free before with stuff that they could have easily ripped me off with. Great business up there imo.

Regarding the sight: Look for the ultimak gas tube for a dot ONLY IF youre going with a really high end dot that can withstand the heat of the gas tube. Think Aimpoint T1 or similar. Anything lower end like Eotech or Primary Arms WILL die on this type of mount (Eotech lovers try me, I'm waiting for it lol). If the T1 or similar is not in your budget, look for the side mount from RS Regulate. They make a front bias, full, and rear bias depending on your dots eye relief and your preference of dot placement over the rifle. DO NOT get a Midwest or UTG side mount. You will regret it. I recommend AKOU's store, and just getting a "Goat Fucker" combo with a mount and dot. But look around of course for a better deal. http://shop.akoperatorsunionlocal4774.com/ Oh and dont bother with a railed dust cover.

Regarding the Stock: Go with an AR buffer tube and stock for comfort, or go with the AK style stock of your choice for looks lol.

Regarding the brake: AKOU's youtube channel has an entire video section dedicated to brakes for AKs that I really enjoyed watching and learning from. They walk through things like concussion, flash etc with each in pretty good detail and field tests. I am personally a fan of flash hiders over muzzle breaks due to less gas back towards me (which will be important in nasty 762x39 ammo lol) and less concussion to myself and people nearby. Just me though. See his videos here and pick one you like.

    Hope this helps.
