Low Power Variable Optic Course

August 18, 2018

Aragon, GA

LPVO’s are becoming increasingly popular, with a wide selection to choose from. Usually mounted on a semi-automatic rifle or carbine, an LPVO gives the shooter the ability to engage from CQB distances out to several hundred yards, depending upon the top end of the optic.

Originally built in the 1-4x24mm type, 1-6x, 1-7x, and 1-8x models are now common.

Topics covered will include, but may not be limited to:
-choosing an LPVO and matching it to a rifle or carbine
-features of an LPVO
-mounting systems
-MOA vs MRAD
-reticles
-building dope and recording it in a databook or similar
-dialing dope vs hold-offs
-Shooting from the standing, sitting, kneeling, and prone positions; supported and unsupported
-engaging at distances from 7 yards to 400 yards. Maximum distance will depend on the LPVO being used and the individual shooter’s capability
-A final, comprehensive exercise that will have the Shooter engaging targets from CQB distance out to their maximum effective distance

We will start at 0700hrs EST on Saturday and shoot until approximately 1700hrs, with a 1 hour break for lunch.

The majority of the course will use steel targets.

The course is limited to 12 students. The cost for the course is $300 per student, payable by check, MO or PayPal. If you pay with PayPal you must add 3.5% to the total to cover fees. In order to hold your seat, your course fees must be prepaid in full. If you are a Georgia LEO, contact me about POST credit.

GEAR LIST:
-rifle or carbine with LPVO and light
-magazines
-600 rounds of ammunition. No armor piercing, steel core, tracers, or incendiary. Bimetal jacket is fine.
-secondary weapon/handgun with holster and 2 spare magazines
-50rds for handgun
-eye and ear protection

Don’t let a lack of gear keep you out of this class. I have several carbines/rifles available for loan, as well as an optic or two.

I also have several vendors that give special pricing to my students, if you need to purchase some kit.
