I can't believe I'm considering this.

Not to me it wasn’t. One of the 2 worst classes I’ve ever taken. I was contacted and asked to provide a suitable training venue for the course, in return for 2 free slots. So, it was free for me and it still wasn’t worth the time I spent there.

Myself and one of my Instructors attended. We were both shooting USPSA Single Stack at the time.

After Day 1 we almost didn’t show up for Day 2. I felt like I had to since I was in charge of the range facility being used for tr weekend.

In regards to the actual armorer’s portion, John Harrison puts on a version that is so much better it can’t be compared.
Damn. Glad you told me. I want to take a 1911 builder's class. It's on my bucket list to build my own custom 1911. Which would you say is the best to take?

And they shit canned him. Now Iain Harrison is the editor. That competition shooters for Taran Tactical said some things that were way worse about the 2nd amendment. They shit canned her. Everyone still supports them. He was a bad egg that somehow got into the mix. But that's all he was. Replaceable. Malarkey and X Products is different because he's not just the egg but instead is the hen. He's part owner.

Nope. I don’t like em still. Not a fan of Taran either.

But I’m a grumpy asshole.

Oh, I'll definitely sand around on the frame to be able to hold higher. I'm really bummed that the Arsenal Strike One's aren't being imported any longer.

Don`t forget the hot iron to add texture where needed for better grip.

I have a G21SF I like shooting, and its bone stock. I have a LNIB G17, with maybe 100 rounds down the pipe, I'm thinking about trading for a G19x. But I'm in for ideas for making the G21SF a little nicer for 3 gun competition. I know I need to put a red dot on it, and I'm open for suggestions for other mods.

What are you liking to get out of the class? You want to build 1911’s from scratch, or you want to maintain, replace parts that wear naturally, and make upgrades?

Build from scratch.

I would recommend you go to a recognized gunsmithing school then apprentice yourself to someone that has already been doing it for 20 years and has built a solid reputation. Depending upon your background, you could skip the first step.

If you're looking for the experience of building a working 1911 from scratch, I can come over to your house, rob you, smack your nuts with a ball peen hammer, and leave.

If you just want to play with his nuts then say so. He's not gay but $20 is $20.

All joking aside, I'm suprised you're not building a 1911 for a competition 3 gun rig.
I like my Glocks, so that's what I'll stick with for 3 gun, I just need to tune it up a little.

I'm not huge into competing, I don't enjoy it a lot but I'll do it occasionally. As a result, my gun needs to be reliable above all else because it'll be used for sd as well. That rules out the 1911.

A big thing to consider is any power factor rules you may have to contend with. Recoil makes a big difference in competition. I was reading a good post when searching for lightening the slide on my 1911 and most of the stuff you see is not functional. The guy who wrote the article went through a prices and found that 50% taken equally from each end of the slide ended up being the ticket. Also, more is not better.

I lightened up the slide on my 1911 and it works great now!
