Was given the opportunity to test a neat concept that's a little different - the subscription service is the Apocabox from Creek Stewart. Totally different from a "gear box" - it's actually tools and instructional guides/lessons for making survival tools along with a few cool survival supplies.

Anyone order the Apocabox and make some of the kits? What did you think? I really love it so far.

Here's some pics + review:

Interesting... I've seen the Apocabox ads before and also visited the website- looks neat. I've come to realize I'm too much of a control freak to let someone else pick out stuff to send me.

However, I do look forward to reading your review.

The apocabox is cool because while, yes, they are picking stuff to send you, it's not like they are choosing gear for you like some of the other subscription boxes out there. And it is a good way to break up with your couch and Little Debbie :)

Man, if they could put one of those Star Crunch things in the box, they'd corner the market.

Truth... I'll add that to my review lol
It probably goes without saying, but how much you wanna bet that those Star Crunches have a half-life similar to that of Uranium? Perfect match ;)

Nice write up. I also have looked at similar companies in the past. Just could never being myself to buy into it. The thing that catches my attention about this company is that there are items they I may actually use. I will consider this one I look into it a little more.

Good point- I enjoy trying out different things, tools, and gadgets- especially when they're outdoors/"survival" related. I'd love to see someone put together boxes of gear to be tested by users. A low cost, industry sample kind of box.

I guess to make that work you'd have to have some sort of feedback system based on posting reviews. Just to eliminate the people that would sign up and never actually use the stuff they were sent or post reviews.

Back on topic, I should probably give Creek a try. He or his company did a friend well after the took part in their Christmas challenge this past year. I thought that was very good of them and I was really happy to read about it. Related to that, I sincerely hope one of the networks picks up the Fat Guys in the Woods series since the Weather Channel dropped it.
